Begin the new year with inspiration at the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre’s Instructors Group Show, a celebration of creativity and teaching excellence. The exhibit, running from January 2 to March 20, 2025, in the Joyner Gallery, offers visitors a glimpse into the artistic practices of the talented instructors who guide students at the art hub of the community.
“The Instructors Group Show is an opportunity for our community to experience the incredible talent our instructors bring,” said Jodi Eppler, Engagement Coordinator at the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre. “Their works inspire our students and show how deeply connected they are to their practice.”
Instructor Janet Horne Cozens reflected on the exhibit’s broader impact and her inspiration to share her painting, George Lake: “I feel it’s important to show the public the depth and variety of the creatives that make up the roster of instructors at the Pumphouse. One of my teachers once told me we have a responsibility to pass on our knowledge and experience to those following in our footsteps, just as others did for us.”
“The Instructors Group Show is a chance for visitors to understand that the Pumphouse is not just a local gallery but an educational institution that strives to bring artistic opportunities to the whole community.”
Paul Eppler, a long-time Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre instructor, emphasized the show’s importance: “Exhibitions like the Instructors Group Show celebrate the breadth of talent within our local art community and provide a platform for diverse artistic voices. They allow visitors to see the creative passions that drive their instructors and highlight the value of lifelong learning in the arts. By showcasing a range of styles and inspirations, these shows can inspire a deeper understanding and appreciation of art’s role in storytelling, self-expression, and cultural connection. It’s a way to bring art closer to the everyday lives of the community.” Paul will exhibit his dynamic acrylic artwork titled CRASH, reflecting his bold and energetic approach to art.
Contemporary multi-media artist Julia Kane shared her excitement about contributing her fused glass pieces, Joy of Sunshine in the Garden and Reminder of Joy:
“The upcoming Instructors’ Exhibition at the Pumphouse is a wonderful opportunity to showcase my fused glass creations. I have included two very different pieces to demonstrate the variety of creativity accomplished in fused glass art. It is my passion because of the depth of colour and the ability to transform in light. I hope visitors can see the uniqueness of fused glass as an art medium.”
Featuring a range of styles, mediums, and themes, the exhibit highlights the creativity and expertise of the Niagara Pumphouse Art Centre’s instructors. Admission is at no charge, and the gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
