“Peace through Valour ” was awarded to Veteran Jim Summersides, as a member of the Special Service Force, WWII   for their role in Liberating Italy. The award replicates the actual memorial in Nathan Philips Square in Toronto presented by grateful Italians,  in thanks for Their brave Service in Italy!  The Force was a Joint Special Force 500 American 500 Canadian soldiers!  They were formed as an elite fighting force with special training, resulting in the taking of Mount la Diffense a battle that lasted two hours resulting heavy casualties.
