St. Johns Pond Trout Opening
April 22 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Join the NPCA on Saturday, April 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Johns Conservation Area in Fonthill, for its opening of trout season.
The pond at St. Johns will open officially for the trout fishing season with the ceremonial first cast thrown by Elizabeth Difruscio in honour of the late Mickey Difruscio, a long-time supporter and advocate of conservation initiatives across the watershed.
Visitors are welcome to bring their own fishing gear, or come to enjoy a scenic hike through the conservation area. Fishing and conservation educational material will be provided.
Please note there will be no food on site or additional recreational activities other than passive hiking and bird watching available. This day has transitioned from a programming event to a community outreach and educational day!
Community partners represented include:
- Trout Unlimited
- Welland Jackfish
- NPCA education tent
Parking to open for 9 am. Washrooms will be available. As parking is very limited, we encourage all participants to carpool where possible.
Rules and Regulations:
Valid Ontario fishing license required to fish and conservation limits will apply. Ontario Fishing Regulations in place. NPCA Conservation Area Rules and Regulations in place.
Please check the Ontario Fishing Regulations at www.ontario.ca for information.
Anglers are asked to kindly refrain from using live bait, and artificial lures are recommended to reduce the introduction of pollutants into the pond’s ecosystem.
Catch and release is encouraged to ensure angling opportunities for the community throughout the season.
