Habitat for Humanity Niagara is thrilled to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of its Fonthill ReStore with a special week-long sale from April 14-19 (the store is closed Good Friday) including door prizes, daily specials and more!
This milestone marks a decade of community impact, sustainability and affordable homeownership support.
Habitat Niagara operates three ReStores across the region, accepting and selling brand-new and gently used home improvement items to the public at a fraction of retail prices – and you won’t pay tax – ever! These stores are not just shopping destinations but also recycling hubs for electronic waste, scrap metal, batteries and more. Through strategic partnerships, the ReStores have grown into one of the largest recycling centres in Niagara.
The Fonthill ReStore, located at 2499 Hwy 20 in Thorold, first opened its doors in April 2015. Over the past 10 years, it has evolved from selling home renovation materials to offering a wide selection of home décor, appliances, tools, vintage and modern furniture, and even brand-new clothing. Every visit is a new adventure, thanks to generous community donors, local businesses, and national partnerships.
Since its opening, the proceeds from the Fonthill ReStore have contributed to the construction of 37 homes throughout the region, directly changing the lives of 37 families and 138 children. In just the last three years, nine homes have been built in Thorold alone, impacting 23 children and their families by providing them with stable and affordable homeownership.
“What a caring community we have,” said Jodi Krah, Fonthill ReStore manager. “I am pleased to say the Fonthill store has volunteers, donors and customers that have been with us since the day we opened. Through their dedication and support we’ve grown beyond what we thought possible. This growth has translated in more families becoming Habitat homeowners. What a great outcome!”
Habitat ReStores play a critical role in environmental sustainability by giving new life to gently used items, it is also a valuable resource for the community to donate gently used furniture, appliances, renovation materials and home goods – keeping those items out of the landfill.
Over the past decade, the Fonthill ReStore has diverted tons of waste from landfills. In 2024 alone, the store successfully diverted over 105,000 pounds of waste from local landfills. As a recognized recycling centre, the ReStore ensures responsible disposal of items like metal, electronics, batteries, textiles and paint.
Habitat Niagara ReStores are staffed by a dedicated team, including close to two hundred volunteers. Through their involvement, community members gain valuable skills, build relationships and contribute to the Habitat for Humanity mission. The Fonthill ReStore also provides employment opportunities for local youth and co-op placements, offering hands-on experience in areas such as donor relations, warehousing, merchandising, customer service and electronics testing.
The ReStore is a valued resource for cost-effective home improvement materials and more. Shoppers can find appliances, bathroom vanities, construction materials, lighting, brand-name clothing, furniture, unique antiques and even kitchen cupboards.
