Evening hours will support changing demographic and improve access to our services.
Effective June 7, 2023, The Hope Centre will be adjusting hours every Wednesday to allow for people to access our services outside of traditional hours. “We have been hearing from many in our community that it’s impossible for them to get to us between the hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm”, said Jon Braithwaite, CEO of The Hope Centre. “As an organization responsible to respond to the needs of our community, we recognize that we could…and should…do something to improve access to our programs.”
This change comes as The Hope Centre is seeing a shift in the demographics of its programs. Prior to the pandemic, an average of 3 – 4% of people accessing Hope Centre programming reported employment income. Fast forward to the first 4 months of 2023, and that number has risen above 10 percent. “The reality is that there are many people working full time who need supports provided at The Hope Centre. Opening later one day a week allows those in our community who aren’t available during normal business hours to access supports like our food bank and housing programs.”
