Over half a million dollars in grants are announced through Niagara Community Foundation (NCF) this spring and the list of projects speak to innovation, creativity and sustainable change to address Niagara’s top concerns. Through the foundation’s David S. Howes Fund grants, Environmental grants, Mini Grants and Summer Camp grants, the impact of these grants are felt from shore to shore across Niagara.
The types of grants vary from small grants of $750 to hire Indigenous educators at the Pelham Library, to $20,000 for environmental protection at I-CAN-TER in Fort Erie; $1,500 to support 30 kids going to Autism Niagara’s summer camp and $40,000 to expand ATTCH Niagara’s trauma specific therapy in Beamsville and Niagara Falls. With over $2.2 million in asks for these four grant programs, the needs across Niagara are great and it is the job of NCF to ensure that funds are dispersed in a way that turns the intention of its donors into impact in the community.
“When reviewing the grant requests for 2023, we are seeing innovation and determination,” says JoAnne Krick, Director of Grants & Community Initiatives. “The charities that are applying to NCF are tackling Niagara’s greatest concerns- housing, mental health, Indigenous relations, environment, food security, belonging and safety, to name a few. We are seeing a strengthening in partnerships with charities working together to create sustainable and equitable change in Niagara.”
