Pelham residents have an opportunity to participate in free Culture Days experiences and workshops beginning September 24, 2022.
The first experience will be African Songs, Percussion and Dance offered in Peace Park on Saturday, September 24 at 1:00 p.m. The event will have a demonstration with interactive elements and feature Djembe Master Amadou Kienou from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, West Africa.
On September 30, 2022, other experiences that align with the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation will also be offered. The September 30 events include a sunrise flag-raising event and a medicine wheel bracelet workshop. Orange Shirt discovery kits will be available at the Meridian Community Centre, specifically designed for youth.
Throughout Culture Days, the Meridian Community Centre will be the host of an art exhibit featuring three local abstract and contemporary artists. The exhibit “Live in Colour” will be in the atrium of the building and open to the public to enjoy. A Coffee House experience on October 7, 2022, will also be part of the activities at the community centre, and local talent is encouraged to come and participate.
“Having these experiences in Pelham is a great addition to Culture Days,” said Karen Blake, culture and community enhancement programmer. “With the variety of options available this year, there are opportunities for the community to enjoy many different aspects of Culture Days.”
Culture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture. During Culture Days, millions attend thousands of free participatory arts and culture events across the country.
