Centennial Park, the park hub located in Fenwick, is receiving important updates thanks to a $489,800 grant from the Government of Ontario’s Community Building Fund – Capital Stream. This grant, awarded to the Town of Pelham in January 2022, will be administered over 12 months by the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
“This investment in Centennial Park is good news for residents of Fenwick and the Town of Pelham,” said Sam Oosterhoff, MPP for Niagara West. “As the provincial voice for Niagara West, one of my top priorities is infrastructure that benefits local communities and families.”
Funding through the Capital Stream of the Community Building Fund will provide the support to redevelop the existing multi-purpose court in Centennial Park. The court will be transformed into a basketball and ball hockey court with the addition of six new dedicated pickleball courts this year. The much-needed outdoor sport and recreation facility upgrades will further expand the availability of community spaces for recreational programs and services vital to the community.
“Centennial Park continues to be a wonderful location for residents to enjoy outdoor recreation in Pelham,” said Town of Pelham Director of Recreation Culture and Wellness Vickie vanRavenswaay. “With the upgrades and the exciting addition of pickleball courts, it is encouraging to see more opportunities for residents to be active.”
Centennial Park is part of the Town of Pelham Park network and includes dedicated ball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, a playground, access to the Gerry Berkhout Trail and a new splash pad set to open in the spring of 2022.
