To many of us who have lived in Fonthill for a number of years and raised our children here that was where it seemed everything took place …… whether it was for figure skating lessons, hockey, lacrosse in the summer, exercise classes, birthday parties, the Pelham Art Festival, the Kinsmen Home Show, or to enjoy an evening of music and dancing put on by the Kinsman.
Whatever the reason, and there were many, this is where we came together as a community.
It was borne out of the need to have an indoor arena which was built in 1975 but soon it became the place where everything “community oriented; took place. Fonthill was growing significantly in the late 70’s and early 80’s and it soon became apparent that our growing community needed a place to get together and enjoy what it was to be a community.
Over the last 10 years and especially the last 4 or 5 we have outgrown The Pelham Arena on Haist Street. Now the new Meridian Center on Hwy 20 welcomes our growing community but those of us who were at the Pelham Arena every day throughout the fall, winter and spring, sometimes in the morning and again in the evenings and during the summer where we gathered to watch our kids play soccer, we will remember the Pelham Arena.
It is now SOLD but I think we will all agree “Those Were The Days”.
It will be For Sale at the Visual Artists of Welland Gallery in the Seaway Mall next to Northern Reflections and the Food Court this weekend and until Dec. 30th.2020. Come out and drop into our Gallery at the Seaway Mall …. there are so many beautiful paintings that are for sale and would make great Christmas gifts Hope to see you there.
