The Rotary Club of Fonthill created a sewing group to make non-medical fabric face masks for our community early in the COVID-19 breakout. They recognized that there would be a shortage and to date have given away close to 1000 masks. Recipients include staff at Lookout Ridge, Portal Village, Woodlands of Sunset, Shorthills Retirement Villas, Seasons, Royal Rose Place, volunteers at Pelham Cares, kids at FACS and RAFT, staff and youth at Youth Resource Niagara.
The sewing committee is made up of Rotarians and caring residents of Pelham. Special thank you for cutting and sewing support from Jennifer Allen, Barb Russell, Jere Brown, Bev Sneath, Patti and Paul Fagan, Ruth Pretty, Raymonde Lafonde, Tove Bowman and Dr. Jim Dixon.
If anyone is sewing masks at this time, you know how difficult it has been to source elastic. The club is grateful to Diana Coatsworth, founder of The Sewing Army in Toronto who has generously shared elastic, thread and fabric.
