The land is located at 2021 Regional Road 69 in Lincoln. It is considered one of the Niagara Peninsula watershed’s hidden gems, as it is part of the Niagara Escarpment, with significant ecological features, flora, fauna, and recreational assets. The extensive trail system connects to the Bruce Trail and offers a hiking experience within the Fifteen Mile Creek Valley, surrounded by mature trees, a salt spring, and two spectacular waterfalls.
This purchase will allow for significant enhancements to the existing public use with the addition of an improved entrance and parking for the Rockway Conservation area and the Bruce Trail.
This land acquisition aligns with the NPCA’s 2021-2031 Strategic Plan Goal 3.1— to create equitable access to greenspace for the health and well-being of people, enhance trail connections, and highlight and promote recreation within the watershed. It also supports the NPCA’s 2022-2032 Draft Land Securement Strategy and climate change objectives.
The NPCA continues to work towards maintaining, protecting, and enhancing the watershed’s valuable green spaces. The purchase of this property is another significant step in achieving these critical climate change and ecological goals.
