Welcome to Ridgeville! A welcome sign and beautiful flower bed introduces people to a quaint little corner of Pelham that is bustling with activity amid the picturesque shops.
Lise Daniel, owner of In the Village shop, is a strong advocate for community beautification. Lise explains, “people will be more inclined to shop at a place that is attractive and pleasing to the eye”. When Lise took over the ownership of In the Village seven years go she noticed that the flower bed at the corner of Canboro and Effingham had some potential for her gardening skills. Lise says, “I asked the Town if I could take over the planting and maintenance of the flower bed and upon receiving a positive response, I took on the task with enthusiasm”. Prior to moving to Niagara, Lise explains, “I worked as a gardener for a golf course in Parry Sound so I am quite familiar with flower bed design techniques”. She further noted that Fran Rogers, former shop owner, approached the Town of Pelham 25 years ago requesting that a flower bed and welcome sign be built. Lise says, “I am carrying on Fran’s legacy”. Over the years Lise has planted several perennial flowers and supplements them with a variety of annuals so there is colour from spring to frost time. When asked when do you have the time to work in the garden while running a shop, Lise responds, “I am weeding and planting in the early mornings and late at night”. She further notes, “my love of gardening provides an avenue for me to give back to the community. My hope is to inspire other businesses to beautify their store fronts and surroundings.”
The Pelham Beautification Committee gives a whole hearted thank you to Lise Daniel for her outstanding beautification efforts.
