The Fonthill Bandshell Summer Concert Series will launch its 17th season this summer with the ever-popular, high-energy sounds of the British invasion.
Once again, the volunteer selection committee has reviewed more than 300 options for this year to bring together an eclectic mix of live entertainment at Peace Park, in downtown Fonthill, every Thursday evening from June 22 to Sept. 7.
The 2023 lineup features 12 performances, including original and tribute acts. They include: Polaris Prize and Juno nominee, Tanika Charles; Juno and country-music award winner (CMAOs and CCMAs) Jamie Warren; up-and-coming Alberta singer/songwriter Martin Kerr; tributes to Billy Joel, The Doobie Brothers and Sly and the Family Stone; and for the July 13 Summerfest offering, Elvis Lives. The full lineup includes a variety of genres and eras of music. Along the way audiences will hear Motown, funk, soul, country, and blues, as well as old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll.
Sponsorships help make the series possible, helping offset the cost of a professional sound system and musician fees. Other costs are covered by a one-time annual donation option (purchase and display a button), as well as collections made each week during the concerts. Volunteers will be selling the annual buttons at the Pelham Farmers Market June 8 and 15, and during the first concerts of the season.
“Our dedicated group of volunteers are really looking forward to another great summer of music! We can’t wait to welcome everyone back to the Fonthill Bandshell to join us again for a wonderful summer of live top-quality performances,” notes Gayle Baltjes-Chataway, committee chair.
Each Thursday evening concert begins at 7 p.m. Free parking is available in various locations, and once again the Thursday evening experience will be combined with the Summer Chill Market, and the Pelham Farmers Market. For detailed program information, visit: www.fonthillbandshell.com.
