At the Fenwick Firefighter Association, we’re incredibly fortunate to have the backing of local businesses like V&R Auto Recycling, whose support helps us enhance our skills and readiness. Recently, thanks to their generosity, we were able to tackle some real-life training scenarios that put our Firefighters’ Auto Extrication (Ex) skills to the test!
Our team was presented with a complex situation involving two vehicles and a trapped patient. While our Rescue truck is equipped with E-tools, for this exercise, we were challenged to rely solely on hydraulic tools, a sawzall, and hand tools.
Under the direction of Command, our task was to remove the vehicle’s doors and then cut away the roof for patient access. Before cutting into any pillars, it’s crucial to peel back the plastic panels and inspect for any potential hazards like seat belt tensioners or side airbag gas canisters. Accidentally cutting into these can create additional risks, so once we confirmed it was safe, we moved ahead with the roof removal.
This training was a valuable opportunity for us to sharpen our skills and ensure we’re always ready to respond quickly and effectively in real-life emergency situations.
A huge thank you to V&R Auto Recycling for their continued support of the Fenwick Firefighters Association and the entire @pelham_fire Department. Your generosity helps us become better, more prepared firefighters for our community!
Stay safe, everyone!
