Community Support Services of Niagara (CSSN) announced today the launch of a grocery delivery program to seniors in the Niagara Region. The purpose of this pilot program is to fill the need of those who are unable to shop independently.
In order to qualify for the program individuals must be over the age of 65 or adults living with a disability must be able to pay for groceries with a credit card. Priority will be given to individuals who meet the at risk category for COVID-19 without family within the Niagara region and are unable to drive.
At this time CSSN is restricted to the use of local grocery stores who offer pick up service. The delivery of this program is strongly reliant on volunteer availability and store capacity. Callers interested in the program are directed to call 905 682 3800, extension 706 and leave a voice mail message. A coordinator will call them back as soon as possible.
Carolyn Askeland stated “It is difficult times such as these that it seems even more important to support our aging population and those living with disabilities in our communities. CSSN is attempting to fill a need in our communities and ensure that those physically unable to get to a grocery store have the necessities of life as we get through this Pandemic. We have severalvolunteers who have ‘stepped up to the plate’ to help with this pilot project but we are alwayslooking for the support of more volunteers. If you are able to help, please consider doing so. If you are unable to physically volunteer, please consider making a financial donation to offset the costs of this service.’
CSSN offers programs to seniors and adults with disabilities assisting them to live in their own homes independently. CSSN is funded by the Hamilton Niagara Haldimand and Brant Local Health Integration Network (HNHB LHIN). Donations are accepted and are used for client-focused services within the local community.
Services offered include: Meals on Wheels, Congregate Dining, Transportation, Homemaking, Friendly Visiting, Security and Reassurance Calls, Safety at Home, Leaf and Snow Buddies, and Home Maintenance and Repair.
