The Fabulous Fenwick Lions Club regrets to announce the cancellation of its annual Car Show which was scheduled for September 11, 2021, at Centennial Park in Fenwick. This car show is held annually on the 2nd weekend of September where we announce the winner of our Classic Car Raffle. Although Car shows are allowed under the current Ontario Governments Covid regulations. The protocols and restrictions that are still in place and must be followed. have made it too daunting and restrictive to hold a fun and safe car show. Although the car show has been cancelled, the draw where we will announce the winner of the 1968 Camaro will go ahead as scheduled for 3 pm.
This is the second year in a row that the car show has been cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. The Classic Car Raffle was postponed for one year. This is due to the cancellation of all the events that the club brings the car to in order to sell tickets. This made it impossible to turn a profit in the few months remaining before the draw date.
Under these unusual circumstances the Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission and the Town of Pelham granted the Fenwick Lions Club permission to postpone the draw to September 11th 2021.
“It’s very disappointing to cancel this years Car Show,” Said Ryan Van Lochem, Chairman of the Fenwick Lions Classic Car Committee. “ It’s a great way to end a car raffle with a park full of classic and vintage cars.” He said,” We could have expected more than 300 cars and a thousand or more car enthusiasts that day.’
With the Covid restrictions selling tickets on the 68 Camaro went from event-based to selling tickets strictly online. “We did about 5 -10% from online sales with our previous raffles” 1st Vice President and Social Media Chair Steve Schilstra said. “Somehow we had to make up 90% of sales we would have received from taking the car to other car shows, malls and outdoor events .” An advertising campaign was launched on January 1st this year with Facebook and car magazine ads as well as roadside signs. “We couldn’t have been more pleased with the response we received,” Schilstra said. “Orders have been coming in every day since and we should have all 10,000 tickets sold by Sept. 11th draw date.”
Proceeds of the car draw go to the sponsorship of a Dog Guide from the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides Program. It costs $25,000 to raise and train each dog. It’s fundraising activities like this that allows LFC to get these highly trained service dogs to people in need free of charge. Further donations are also made to Lions Club local and international initiatives.
Tickets can still be purchased from our website fabulousfenwicklions.org. Be sure to also like us on Facebook where will be airing the draw on Facebook live at 3 pm on September 11th.
