When Town facilities began to reopen, one of the health and safety measures put in place was to screen visitors at the door, asking them to answer a series of health-related questions designed by Niagara Public Health.

With the Meridian Community Centre open to the public for registered programs and Town Hall open by appointment only, these health screening questions are critically important in maintaining staff and the public’s health and safety.

Why are we screening? 

Conducting a preliminary health screening before entry into Pelham facilities ensures that staff and public interactions are safe. Screening has been practiced in Pelham since the first program started up again. As of Sept. 26, the Province of Ontario mandated that pre-entry screening is mandatory for all workplaces. This screening is in effect for staff and visitors.

COVID fatigue

You may tire of repeating the same answers to the same questions each time you enter the building; however, now, more than ever, it is important to stay diligent in health and safety best practices. Entering cold and flu season, it is crucial to wash and sanitize our hands regularly, stay home if we’re not feeling well, maintain physical distancing, and wear a face-covering when indoors or physical distancing is not possible.

What to remember

When conducting the screening, Pelham staff are just doing their jobs. Verbal abuse and aggressive behavior are unnecessary and unwelcome. These are challenging times for everyone.
