Wondering if you’re eligible to vote in the upcoming by-election? Read below to find out the requirements for eligible voters.

The vacant Ward One Council seat can be filled by any eligible nominee, however, only those residing or owning property in Ward One may cast a ballot.

According to Section 17 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (MEA), you are eligible to vote in the 2020 Municipal By-Election, if, on Voting Day (Tuesday, September 15, 2020), you:

• Are a Canadian Citizen
• Are at least 18 years old
• Reside in Pelham (Ward One), or are the owner or tenant of land in Pelham (Ward One) or the spouse of such owner or tenant
• Are not prohibited from voting as defined below

The following are prohibited from voting:

• A person who is serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution
• A corporation
• A person acting as executor or trustee or in any other representative capacity, except as a voting proxy in accordance with section 44
• A person who was convicted of the corrupt practice described in subsection 90(3) of the MEA, if voting day in the current election is less than five years after voting day in the election in respect of which he or she was convicted
