The Town of Pelham is saddened by the news of the passing of past Mayor, Ron Leavens.
Leavens, a dedicated community leader, retired business owner and teacher, served as Mayor from 2003 to 2006. Leavens worked with staff to build a positive relationship between staff and the Mayor’s Office. While in office, Leavens was an advocate for the development of the Town, while working to maintain the small town feel. The most notable of efforts being the purchase of the now East Fonthill lands. Town staff often spoke of what a pleasure it was to work with Mayor Leavens.
Current Pelham Mayor Marvin Junkin recalls speaking with Leavens as Junkin was thinking about running for the position in 2018. “After listening to him for over an hour, I knew I had made a great decision to seek his advice,” said Mayor Marvin Junkin. “He was a great mayor because he was a great communicator. My condolences to his wife and family members.”
Leavens continued to be an active member of the community after leaving the Mayor’s office in 2006. Many community members continued to experience his dedication to serving the community through his local business, where he prided himself on his small-town customer service.
Please keep the family and friends of Leavens in your thoughts during this difficult time. The Town of Pelham will fly the flags at half-mast at all Town facilities for the following week to recognize and honour the service of Leavens.
