The Broken Spoke - Fixing Bikes For A Cause

This afternoon Jay and I met the absolutely incredible Aubrey Foley. He is a teacher at Port Colborne High School who runs The Broken Spoke.

He shared that his shop takes in close to 3000 bikes per year and he teaches his students how to repair, refurbish and upcycle bikes for all ages and abilities. He shared that a little tricycle was donated to a Ukranian boy this week, newly landed in Canada whose mother hasn’t heard from her husband or father in nearly 8 weeks. He also showed us a photo of a bike he made for a special needs woman out east that was placed on a plane and sent directly to her in Newfoundland over the easter weekend. He works closely with NCC to make bikes for kids with all kinds of special needs.

He came by to pick up two bikes from us and three from our friends the Douglas family. He was thrilled with our donations and said they’ll be in new hands soon.

If you have good used bikes, wheelchairs and walkers you can donate directly to Aubrey by emailing at the address below. He also said you can bring them to any Walker Industries garbage collection weigh station site and ask that the bike be left for The Broken Spoke.
