After reassessing road and weather conditions, the City of Welland decided to suspend normal operations for Welland Transit for the remainder of the day, resuming January 18.
To provide residents with options for trips of necessity, WellTrans and OnDemand options are available, provided the vehicles can access the pickup areas of the riders.
“In the interest of safety for operators and riders, and to give city staff more time to clear the roads, suspending transit was a difficult but correct call,” said Edward Zahra, transit manager. “We’re pleased to keep our WellTrans and OnDemand services running for those who need transportation, and we look forward to getting back to full operations tomorrow morning.”
Residents requiring WellTrans service can call 905-735-1700 x3102 for more information. Bookings can be made until 4 p.m. for both services.
All transit information can be found at www.welland.ca/transit.
The City of Welland continues to provide updates to its operating services during this snow event and can be readily accessed on its website (www.welland.ca) and social media (www.twitter.com/welland and www.facebook.com/cityofwelland).
