Allison Barrow has transformed a love for painting into a passionate second career as an impressionist artist. Her journey of painting began after taking an introductory watercolour class at the Haliburton School of Art and Design to fulfill a seemingly innocuous bucket list wish, following in the footsteps of her great uncle and a grandmother who learned to paint at the age of 80! Allison’s experience was love at the first raw stroke! With determination, patience and inspiration from her love of nature, Allison’s watercolour and acrylic paintings capture the simplest of subjects such as a field of poppies, a lake on a quiet morning, an old country barn and a busy street scene with vibrancy, a richness of colour and a sense wonder.
Residing in the small town of Goodwood, Ontario, spending time at her family cottage in Haliburton, and escaping to France and Italy for painting inspiration, Allison’s paintings reflect her vision of life; creating moments of calm and gratitude for the beauty that surrounds us to being bold, harnessing her sparkle, sophistication and zest for life.
Allison’s recent accomplishments include: Article in Uxbridge Times : Goodwood Artist Paints Her Way to A Second Career, Acceptance for Jurying in the Woman in Watercolour International Watercolours Competition, 2020, Best in Watercolour and First Place in Markham Fair 2017, published entry in the periodical Brushstrokes 2020, and acknowledgment for painting the historic Irondale Church in the Bark Lake Cultural Developments Journal.
