If the past year and a half has taught us anything, it has been the need to support our local businesses so that they can survive and thrive. We also realize the importance of having a place to live as our homes became our classrooms, offices, and our safe havens.
For the month of May, Habitat for Humanity Niagara is hosting an event appropriately named Home for Dinner that supports local restaurants and helps Habitat Niagara build homes for local families.
Home for Dinner is a community fundraising initiative, which encourages locals to order takeout from a selection of participating restaurants, and for every $25 takeout order Habitat’s sponsoring partners donate $5 to Habitat Niagara.
“This initiative came out of a passion to support an industry that has been hardest hit by the pandemic, our local restaurants, and how critical it is to have a safe and affordable home to shelter in place,” says Lorraine Snihur, Chief Development Officer, Habitat Niagara. “Our sponsoring partners were thrilled they could support local restaurants and Habitat Niagara to help build stronger communities as we navigate through these unsettling times.”
From May 1st to the 31st, Habitat Niagara is encouraging the community to visit www.habitatniagara.ca to choose from a list of participating restaurants and place a minimum $25 takeout order. Customers will get delicious food, support a local business, and help Habitat Niagara build affordable homes for families across Niagara.
Stay home. Order takeout. Build stronger communities.
About Habitat for Humanity Niagara
Habitat Niagara builds decent, and affordable homes, providing no down-payment, interest-free mortgages to qualifying families who would otherwise not be able to purchase their own homes. Habitat is not a giveaway program in that we provide “a hand up not a hand out.” Established locally in 1993, Habitat Niagara is constructing its 69th home in Niagara at the end of this year, serving 74 families over the past 28 years, creating stable and secure housing for more than 260 children.
Habitat for Humanity Niagara also operates a home improvement retail store – the ReStore – selling donated new and used appliances, furniture, kitchens, building materials and home supplies. Habitat for Humanity ReStores play an integral part in Habitat’s mission, providing financial support for our work. The Niagara ReStores are located at 2499 Hwy 20, Fonthill, 185 South Service Road, Grimsby, and 150 Bunting Road, St. Catharines. For more information please visit www.habitatniagara.ca
