The Niagara College Knights women’s volleyball team improved to 9-5 in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association play with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18 and 25-16) sweep at Fanshawe (4-10) last Wednesday.
Leading point getters for Niagara were Montanna Taylor (14), Natasha Desjardins (11), Abbey Gooder (10) and Hannah Cowie (8). Taylor recorded five kills, five service aces and four solo blocks. Desjardins had 11 kills, Gooder had seven and Cowie and Annastasia Droppert had six apiece.
Niagara hosts Humber (14-0) Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Mohawk (8-7) Saturday at 1 p.m.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Niagara College’s men’s volleyball team was in tough, dropping a 3-0 (17-25, 16-25 and 15-25) decision on the road to Fanshawe last Wednesday.
Niagara fell to 8-6 with the loss while West-leading Fanshawe improved to 12-2.
Top scorers for Niagara were Elijah Bugiardini (8), Dallas Melnick (8) and Tyler Carmichael (6). Elijah Bugiardini had seven kills, Carmichael had six and Melnick recorded five.
Niagara hosts Humber (9-5) Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Mohawk (8-7) Saturday at 1 p.m.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Niagara women’s basketball team thumped winless Sheridan (0-12) on the road last Friday to improve to 6-5 on the season.
Sheridan kept the game close, trailing 13-10 after one quarter and 27-23 at the half before the Knights took control by outscoring the homeside 43-20 in the second half.
