The Love My Park initiative launches this June, capturing the ideas and imagination of neighbourhoods throughout the city.
In approaching this campaign, the city is asking residents to consider:
- Are the right amenities in the park based on the needs of everyone in the neighbourhood?
- What could be done to the park to ensure there is something for everyone for all four seasons?
- How can the park improve its identity and purpose for social gathering and play?
- Could community safety improvements encourage more use of the park?
- Can the greenspace be used to help improve our ecosystem?
Six parks have been selected for this year’s Love My Park initiative. On the dates and times listed below, city staff and elected officials will listen to your ideas and suggestions at the park.
“This initiative is about the community supporting the community. Who best to generate ideas and solutions for your neighbourhood park, then the residents who live there,” said Rob Axiak, director of community services. “The intention of this initiative is not an overhaul of any one park, but rather to empower the community to embrace what we currently have and build upon what it could be for the neighbourhood through idea sharing.”
This is also a great opportunity to meet your neighbours, create ownership in your park, and build community pride. Collectively, we aspire to enhance the city’s current park and open spaces by improving accessibility, usability, quality, and appearance of our vast parkland for residents and visitors.
Love My Park is a high-profile public engagement campaign that aims to bring the parks to the community and the community to the parks through community engagement. You can also provide input and follow this initiative through www.engagewelland.ca/love-my-park.
