Welland – The City of Welland is providing Federal and Provincial publication information and updates to keep you informed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Federal Government Initiatives:
Vance Badawey, MP Niagara – Several initiatives have been launched to fight COVID-19:
- Amalgamation of the Emergency Care Benefit and the Emergency Support Benefit to streamline services and get money to Canadians faster;
- Introducing financial support for Businesses by increasing wage subsidies, the new Canada Emergency Business Account, more funding for EDC and BDB, as well as deferring GST/HST, Duties, and Import Taxes;
- Financial support for farmers and food producers;
- Allocation of more money to the researchers who are trying to find vaccines;
- Introduced clearer exceptions to people who can still enter Canada;
- Passed the new Quarantine Act which came into effect on March 26th. The act enforces 14 day isolation for people arriving in Canada.

Restrictions on Public Gatherings effective March 28, 2020:
- Organized public events and social gatherings are limited to no more than five (5) people;
- Does not apply to:
- private households with five people or more
- operating child care centres supporting frontline health care workers and first responders provided the number of persons at each centre does not exceed 50 people.
- The maximum number of people who can attend a funeral, visitation, or any other gathering in one room at one time is 10 or less. This does not include funeral home staff. These rules are in force regardless if there is unlimited space or it occurs outside.
