The Communications Pop Culture and Film program at Brock University gives fourth year honours students the opportunity to participate in experiential learning. Allowing students to build upon the knowledge they have leaned in class and further develop their professional skills.
Each year the honours students have the opportunity to Intern for a community partner. For the last three years, myNiagara Online has had the opportunity to have one of these student interns work with them.
Although this year, myNiagara Online has been given the opportunity to have two student interns working as a part of their team. This year is also different as the two student interns have been working remotely and virtually. With one student working within the Niagara Region (Jade top right of photo) and the other from halfway across the world in Sri Lanka (Rashmi bottom of photo). This has presented a whole new set of challenges and opportunities for the student interns.
Some of the projects that the interns have taken on this semester include;
- Virtual contests to help raise awareness and support for local businesses.
- Publishing articles to feature myNiagara Online Community Partners
- Connecting with those in our community to promote, influence, and be supporters of local culture in Niagara. With the use of various campaigns, such as the ‘Shop Local’ campaign.
- And many more exciting existing and upcoming projects.
