The City of Welland received $96,067 from the province’s Municipal Modernization Program (MMP) to help fund the City of Welland’s digital records management system implementation.
The provincial funding is for up to 65 per cent of total eligible costs to implement the project and complete a final report that forecasts annual savings and other efficiency outcomes by February 28, 2023.
“This funding allows the City to modernize its records, creating easier access and a user-friendly system for staff,” said CAO Steve Zorbas. “The provincial government funding to modernize our city emphasizes the commitment on both ends to continue to make Welland a premier place to live, work, play, and invest.”
The provincial government launched the MMP In 2019, helping small and rural municipalities modernize service delivery and identify new efficient and effective practices. The impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak have made this work more important than ever.
As stated in the confirmation letter to the city, the projects approved for funding under the third intake of the MMP support municipalities’ efforts to conduct service delivery reviews to find efficiencies or implement a range of projects. These include developing online systems to improve the local process for approving residential and industrial developments to bring housing and employment-related development on stream faster or setting up new shared services with neighbouring municipalities.
