City of Welland employees and the greater community, helped put smiles on families’ faces this holiday season because of their fundraising efforts. Employees accepted the Salvation Army adopt a family challenge again this year; however, city staff raised the bar and adopted three families. The Mitten Tree Campaign worked alongside the Community Christmas Toy Drive to collect an enormous amount of toys, gifts, and more.
Collected this Holiday Season:
City Staff Adopt a Family Salvation Army: Raised a total of $1,200 to sponsor three families: seven children, ages 3-10 years old, including parents. In addition, gift cards were purchased with the remaining funds and gifted to the Salvation Army Store to support families that were not sponsored this year
Community Christmas Toy Drive and Mitten Tree Campaign: Estimate of 2,500 donated items including clothing, books, a wide variety of toys, board games, toiletries, stuffed animals, hats, mittens, scarves, socks, and more. A total of 14 boxes of non-perishable food was collected and donated to the Hope Centre.
