“Community events such as Indigenous Day provide the opportunity for our non-Indigenous community to learn about our culture, heritage, traditions, and ceremonies and take steps towards learning and walking together. As an Indigenous person, I celebrate my culture every day, but Indigenous Day is a day to celebrate with other Indigenous people all over Canada and embrace our culture.”
The City of St. Catharines will be waiving parking fees at all lots and metres (garages and permit lots excluded) on Wed 21 June to increase accessibility to the event.
SNOTTY NOSE REZ KIDS is a Canadian Hip-Hop duo of Haisla (Indigenous) descent from Kitimat, BC. Rappers Yung Trybez and Young D formed the duo in 2016. Releasing two albums in 2017 with their second, The Average Savage, winning them Best Hip-Hop Artist at the Western Canadian Music Awards (WCMA’s), cemented them on 2018’s Top 10 list of the coveted Polaris Music Prize, and landed them a 2019 JUNO nomination for best Indigenous Music Album. The group has toured heavily in Canada with appearances in New York City, Seattle and Darwin, Australia. They quickly gained notoriety for their energetic, inspiring and thought-provoking performances.
Plus don’t miss special guests: Ol’ Child, Low Animal and The Pappy Johns Band.
The organizers of this event would also like to acknowledge that additional support provided from the Government of Canada’s Celebrate Canada program and the St. Catharines Mayor’s SCORE fund (Siscoe’s Community OutReach and Engagement) has helped make the event possible. The SCORE fund contributes money raised through fundraising efforts and reinvests it in community events.
