The Rotary Club of Fonthill is pleased to congratulate E.L Crossley 2021 graduates Parker Triano and Isabel Song who are this year’s Rotary Scholarship recipients. Through their years at E.L. Crossley, Parker and Isabel have both demonstrated through their actions their commitment to the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self”. At their graduation this year, Parker and Isabel will each be presented with a Rotary medallion and scholarship cheque to support their post-secondary education.
As an elementary student at A.K. Wigg, Parker participated in the Early Act Club – an elementary school version of Rotary. While at E.L. Crossley, he was selected to participate in Rotary’s SLAPSHOT leadership training which encouraged him to then join Crossley’s Interact Club – the secondary school version of Rotary. Parker has also been active in volunteering with the Pelham Mayor’s Youth Advisory Club, Crossley’s Link Crew, Student’s Council and the Pelham Library Teen Advisory Council. Parker’s long-term commitment to volunteering in his community has allowed him to see the value of volunteering and he hopes to continue that while he transitions to post-secondary education.
As a young person, Isabel had the opportunity to travel to El Salvador on a mission trip which allowed her to reflect on her own position of privilege and helped her make a commitment to helping serve others. Since her first trip, she has traveled there a second time to support the community, has worked to raise funds for them and has made a personal commitment to assisting others. She volunteers at her Church and through various summer camps as well as supporting other families in her community. Her volunteer work has led her to decide to pursue a post-secondary education that will allow her to work in a service field.
The Rotary Club of Fonthill was extremely impressed with the efforts, determination and commitment of all seven students who applied for this scholarship and wishes each and every one of them the very best as they continue to demonstrate the importance of “Service Above Self”.
