Last week I was invited to go on one of Ponant’s Explorer Ships that was in Toronto for a ship tour!
This ship has everything! It’s light and airy decor comforts you and the staterooms are spacious with fine French details… What else would you expect from a French Cruise Line!
What is onboard:
– theatre for shows and presentations
– Explorers who are experts in their fields
– 2 restaurants- finest dining
-180 passengers
– Hair salon and spa
– small ship experience, going to the most remote places
– sustainable and responsible cruise line
– Guest lecturers and artists are frequently asked to come and present
– safety and expedition experts
– polar expeditions to tropical cruises
This one feature defines what Ponant wants you to experience…they want you to immerse yourself with the areas you visit and they have definitely hit the mark with this one!
Walking down the dark blue stairwell into the depth of the ship was a little exciting, especially as I came out of the natural & light feel of the ship above me.
Below is this dimly lit lounge where only champagne is served,of course, so the noise of blenders etc don’t disrupt the experience underwater. What do I mean?
There are 2 large windows that resemble eyes, that look under the water so you can see all the amazing under water life whether plants, coral or fish.
In the last pic you see my hand resting as they play sounds of underwater activity and you can gently feel it’s vibration throughout the lounge. It really gives you that connected feeling! And when they are out in areas where there’s lots of fish or whales they do turn on the mic so you can hear the language we never get to hear. So cool isn’t it?
I also learned the architect who designed this wanted people to feel that they were swallowed by a whale…and you kind of do get that feeling with the skeleton and eyes…I can totally envision it.
This really sets a mood and it’s all a part of being on an exploration type of cruise. Immersing yourself in the many ways and having experiences that not only wow you but forever change how you see things by experiencing and understanding. Ponant has done this perfectly.
THIS is what expedition cruising is all about 🛳️🌏
