Over the next several days only, Niagara Health is working with family doctors in the community to directly schedule residents 75 years of age and older to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. These vaccinations will take place at the hospital’s clinic at Seymour Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre in St. Catharines.
Individuals in this age group are being contacted directly to book their appointments with the clinic.
This is a short-term measure over the next several days, until this age group is eligible to book their own appointments directly using the province’s booking system next week:https://www.niagararegion.ca/health/covid-19/vaccination/.
“We’re taking advantage of this unique opportunity to get more needles into arms,” says Linda Boich, Niagara Health’s Executive Vice President, Quality, and Mental Health and Addictions and Executive Lead, Integrated Care and Vaccines. “By continuing our partnership with family doctors to book appointments at the hospital clinic, we’re able to get a head start on vaccinating Niagara residents age 75 and older.”
At this time, Niagara Health will continue to vaccinate targeted groups at the arena clinic or in the hospital. This work will evolve and change, and currently includes:
- Current or recently admitted 80+ year old patients of Niagara Health or Hotel Dieu Shaver Health & Rehabilitation Centre
- Niagara residents 80+ years old
- Complex care patients in hospital and those at home who are supported by Home and Community Care providers, regardless of age
- Frontline healthcare workers and others deemed eligible per the provincial guidance
In all cases, vaccinations are by appointment only.
We will provide updates as this work progresses. The best way to stay up-to-date is to follow our vaccination clinic webpage: https://www.niagarahealth.on.ca/site/vaccination-clinic.
