Art Challenges & Competitions Giving Niagara Residents a Safe Creative Outlet

Thanks to some incredible partners, sponsors, and a grant provided by the City of Niagara Falls, “CREATE the Summer” launched with great success in early June 2021, and has already garnered some amazing artwork from various Niagara residents.

An online arts festival celebrating and inspiring creativity across Niagara, CREATE the Summer features FREE weekly Art Challenges, such as “10-Word Stories” and “Art from Nature”, which are posted to their social media channels every Monday.

CREATE the Summer also features 48-Hour Competitions in which entrants put their creativity to the test. Fort Erie resident Mary Coleman recently won the Short Story competition and the winner of the event’s Music competition will be announced on July 29th.

There are still two more upcoming 48-Hour Competitions, each of which feature some fantastic prizes. A Visual Art competition will be held July 30 – August 1, sponsored by “Steve Wilson Studios & The Gallery” and the “Niagara Falls Art Gallery”, with guest judges Debra Attenborough and Steve Wilson. Then, a Short Film competition will be held August 20 – 22, sponsored by “Vaylin Entertainment”, with guest judge actor/filmmaker Nick Mirka.

The intention of “CREATE the Summer” is to invite others to express their ideas through various art forms, regardless of their age, level of skill or amount of experience. While some challenges call on participants to use photography, paint or even random items from around their homes, others task them with using any artform or style they wish to reflect a prompt such as “Niagara Falls” or “Community”.
