The Fonthill Lions Club is hosting its third annual High Tea on Saturday February 15 at the Fonthill Legion. Past events were attended by guests from across the Niagara Region and sold out within weeks of announcement.
Fancy fascinators and silly hats are a common theme. “People love a reason to dress up and it’s a great way to socialize on a cold, wintery Saturday afternoon,” said Jane Carr, President of the Fonthill Lions Club.
Organizing the event is always a labour of love. The Lions spend countless hours planning, preparing food, setting up, decorating and cleaning, but it is well worth the effort to raise money for local community service. One interesting task is to sort and match approximately 200 sets of cups and saucers which is a lot harder than one might think. It takes at least ten people and about two to three hours to match the sets, which is likened to one of those seemingly-impossible challenges assigned to contestants in the Amazing Race.
The menu consists of an array of finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, a variety of popular sweet treats, and of course, hot tea served by Lions decked out in suits and tuxedos.
The prize table is always a popular hit featuring amazing donations from generous community supporters, including gift baskets, gift cards and unique treasures.
The 2025 event is proudly sponsored by Dube Realtors.
All in all, it is always a royally good time in support of the Fonthill Lions ongoing community service. For tickets and more information, contact Lion Eleanor at eleanorruth10@gmail.com.
