The Hope Centre in Welland was extremely appreciative to receive a donation of thirty plus ½ Roasted Chickens from the Fonthill Lions following their monthly drive-thru dinner service on June 13.
“Since we are currently not allowed volunteers in the kitchen due to safety protocols, the donation will greatly alleviate some of the load on our kitchen manager, Gina. She will be able to portion these half chickens into many meals for the less fortunate. Thank you to the Fonthill Lions for thinking of us!” said Colleen McMillan from The Hope Centre.
For over forty years, The Hope Centre has helped to build and strengthen Welland and surrounding areas by providing residents in need access to their Community Lunch Program, Food Bank, Housing Stability programs and many other services. The Hope Centre also advocates to change the social structures that create poverty, homelessness and compromised health and well-being. Despite ongoing Covid restrictions for well over a year, the Fonthill Lions have continued to raise money to give back to the community. “It has been a challenge for all service clubs during Covid restrictions, but we have found ways to continue our community service in new and creative ways,” said Steven Pellerin, President of the Fonthill Lions.
Just another reminder that “We Serve”, which is the global motto for Lions International, was created in 1954 by Lion Doug Stephenson, member of the Fonthill Lions. Today, in their 76th year, the Fonthill Lions still proudly boast of being the global “Motto Makers”.
