Artist Profile: Rajshree Jena

“Color is the place where our brain and the universe meet”
This statement from the artist Cezanne encompasses my feeling for art, as the perfect medium for storytelling.

As a wife and mother of two, the chaos of everyday life evaporates into calmness through constant art exploration as a meditative outlet which allows my mind to flow through my tools.

Born and raised in Chennai, India, I was encouraged from a young age to explore my artistic interests. My undergraduate degree is in Art and Architecture made me pursue different pen and pencil techniques. Being fortunate to have travelled across many countries since, I’ve had exposure to various cultures which I try to express through my art. My bold and colourful style is a blend of  traditional and modern techniques that create a state of mindfulness and peace.

Over time I’ve progressed from pen, pencil and watercolor with influences from my cultural background and experience as a professional architect. Moving to Canada enabled me to explore in  many different mediums and styles and presently I paint mostly in acrylics because of its versatility and boldness of color.
