NOTICE OF BY- ELECTION – WARD ONE MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS ACT, 1996 (S.40)
Municipal By-Election Day: September 15, 2020
NOTICE is hereby given to the Municipal Electors of the Town of Pelham, Regional Municipality of Niagara, that
nominations may be filed as outlined below for the following Office: Councillor, Ward One (one to be elected).
How might one submit a nomination/file as a candidate?
Nomination Period: June 16, 2020 to July 31, 2020
Eligible Candidates may file a nomination paper (Form 1) including the prescribed fee and submission of 25 signatures of eligible voters supporting the nomination (Form 2) starting June 16, 2020 during normal business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and up to Nomination Day, July 31, 2020 during prescribed hours. Nomination fee is $100 and must be paid by cash, debit, certified cheque or money order.
Nomination Day: July 31, 2020 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
Deadline for filing or withdrawing nominations. On Nomination Day, nominations may only be filed between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Withdrawal of a nomination by a candidate, in writing, is required before 2:00 p.m.
Election Day/Voting Day
Tuesday, September 15, 2020
Voting places will be open from 10 a.m. and will close promptly at 8 p.m.
How might one vote if one can’t get to the polls? Proxy voting is available
Applications for Appointment of a Voting Proxy shall be made to the Clerk at the address shown below, during regularoffice hours (Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) and must be made in the prescribed form. The Clerk has also designated that applications may be made at the applicable advance vote locations between the hours of 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Applications for Appointment of a Voting Proxy will be processed up to 4:30 p.m. only on Election Day, to be issued from Town Hall. Advance vote dates and locations will be posted on the Town’s municipal website.
How might one determine if they are on the voters’ list?
Revisions to the voters’ list may be made up to the close of voting on Election Day. Applications must be in the designated form, be fully and properly completed, and signed by the applicant. Forms may be obtained from the Office of the Clerk, at each polling station at advance vote locations, and at each polling place on Voting Day.

How might one know where to vote?
Voter notification packages will be mailed to all eligible voters on the list in August, 2020. The package containsinformation about when and where Ward One electors may vote. If you do not receive a package, or if the information contained in it is incorrect, please contact the Clerk’s office. Voting locations are also listed on the Town’s website.
