The Town of Pelham is preparing to open the highly anticipated splash pads and updated amenities in multiple Pelham area parks for the summer. Located in Centennial Park in Fenwick and at Marlene Stewart Streit Park in Fonthill, the two splash pads, scheduled to open late June, are the first in Pelham and are part of the updated amenities provided for the community.
“These are exciting improvements and additions for recreation in Pelham,” said Town of Pelham Director of Recreation Culture and Wellness Vickie vanRavenswaay. “Splash pads, water features and updated courts continue to provide unique outdoor spaces for all ages to enjoy.”
Centennial Park in Fenwick will be home to a splash pad that includes a superwave water wheel, sunspray and jet stream sprayers within the design located beside the playground area. Additional improvements in the park include the tennis court regrading and a new court surface. Once the final asphalt is installed and cured, the tennis court surfacing can be applied, and the lines added before opening for the summer season. The newly renovated and expanded outdoor Pickleball and multi-purpose courts, which replace the previous aging court, will also be ready for public use by late June.
Marlene Stewart Streit Park splash pad is designed with a nature-inspired theme and includes a butterfly, water bloom, and frog, among the elements. The splash pad will be a welcome addition to the park that currently is home to the Isaac Riehl Memorial Skate Park, an outdoor mural installation, a playground, exercise equipment and the Pelham pool. Work is currently taking place to remove the existing concrete pad in the park, which will be the location of a new picnic pavilion. The pavilion will provide welcome shade and seating areas and be available for public use and private rentals throughout the season.
Riverview Estates Park,an accessible neighbourhood park in East Fonthill, had a delayed opening due to supply chain issues with the playground turf. The turf has been secured and is now scheduled for a mid-June installation. The park includes a playground area, personal fitness amenities and a cool mister, the first water feature in a neighbourhood park in Pelham.
Official openings will occur once all work has been completed.
