This past Spring, a beautiful idea sprouted in the minds of the youth, volunteers, and employees at Youth Resources Niagara (YRN). They would work together to created a 2000 square foot vegetable and flower garden in an effort to give back to the community.
Youth Resources Niagara exists to provide at-risk youth with access to meaningful, supportive programs and systems, which empower youth to overcome obstacles and to reach their full potential.
The YRN youth, employees and volunteers worked hard to find appropriate space for the garden in late Spring. They planned, prepared and eventually planted in an effort to turn their idea into a reality. The team worked diligently throughout the summer, weeding and tilling.
According to Lilli M, a gardening volunteer, the garden was lush by August with, “lots of tomatoes, beans, an abundance of cucumbers, bok choy, swiss chard, peppers, corn, zucchini were just starting to ripen”. Michael Taylor, Executive Director of Youth Resources Niagara was proud to share “…the gardening team was able to donate over 600lbs of produce to Pelham Cares.”
The Pelham Beautification Committee would like to congratulate Youth Resources Niagara on their efforts to beautify Pelham and to share the fruits of their efforts with those in need within our community.
