Identified as a project to complete this year, the Centennial Park splash pad needed federal and provincial funding before it could move forward. With a joint federal and provincial announcement for the Investing in Canada Plan (ICIP): COVID-19 Resilence Stream on June 29, 2021, the project now has the green light.

The total cost of the splash pad is $350,000, with more than a third of it being funded by federal and provincial funding. The remaining portion of the cost is paid from development charges revenue. The splash pad will have to be completed by December 31, 2021.

“The community has wanted a splash pad for many years, and it’s a great day when we get to announce that the Town can come through on that request,” said Mayor Marvin Junkin. “With this funding, we can get shovels in the ground and complete this project by the end of the year.”

The joint federal and provincial funding through the ICIP supports 129 towns, cities, and municipalities throughout Southwestern, Midwestern and Central Ontario.

The Government of Canada is investing more than $40.9 million towards these projects through the COVID-19 Resilience Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The Government of Ontario is contributing over $10.2 million to the projects.

This funding supports the development of modern and accessible recreational options and equipment replacement in health and emergency facilities.
