Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre invites the public to view the breathtaking vistas captured by contemporary landscape artist Cheryl Bailey OSA. An upcoming solo exhibition entitled “Meadow Sighs, Mountain Highs” will grace the Joyner Gallery from May 1 to May 26, 2024 in its Joyner Gallery.
The public is warmly welcomed to the opening reception on Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, where attendees will have the exclusive opportunity to engage with Cheryl Bailey, admire her artworks, and connect with fellow art enthusiasts. The artist will offer remarks around 2:30 pm, and refreshments, including a selection of fine wines courtesy of Chateau des Charmes, will be served.
‘Meadow Sighs, Mountain Highs’ eloquently captures Cheryl Bailey’s artistic vision, inviting viewers to explore the essence of nature through her unique lens. Mountains and meadows become symbols of human transcendence, reflecting upon spiritual and physical possibilities. Bailey’s paintings distill visual complexity into carefully choreographed simplicity, merging flattened shapes with surface textures and a powerful black underpainting. The deliberate inclusion of intensely colored, occasionally incongruent elements adds a captivating layer to the dialogue with the viewer, creating a poetic reinterpretation of landscape stories.
Beyond aesthetic appreciation, Bailey’s works advocate for the importance of native plants in environmental sustainability and pollinator support. Drawing from her expertise in biology and ecosystems, she champions the integration of native plants in gardens to revitalize pollinator populations and foster biodiversity.
Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to seize the opportunity to experience Cheryl Bailey’s stunning artworks and discover the awe-inspiring beauty of nature’s tapestry, from mountains to rivers, hills to valleys, forests to farmland. More details about this exhibition can be found at the Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre website, niagarapumphouse.ca/exhibitions.
