The Niagara Pumphouse Arts Centre is proud to present ‘About Town – My Impressions of NOTL’, a solo exhibit by Rick Cullis B.A, B.Ed, AFCA, SCA, running from October 30 to November 27, 2024. The exhibit offers a glimpse into the charm of Niagara-on-the-Lake through the eyes of an artist who has spent the last decade exploring its streets, landscapes, and the mighty Niagara River.
‘About Town – My Impressions of NOTL’ reflects the diverse scenes one can find while wandering the town-historical architecture, serene natural landscapes, and the interplay between wild and cultivated spaces.”Moving here felt like winning the lottery,” says Cullis. These paintings represent what I’ve experienced in this special place: peaceful quiet, a deep sense of history, and the strength of the river.” His naturalistic, realistic oil paintings convey the cultural and natural history of the area, from the architecture of historic homes to the forests, parks, and lakeshores.
The artist’s work is meant to evoke a sense of connection to the unique history of Niagara-on-the-Lake. “If someone can look at my work and begin to get a sense of the careful attention to light, texture, and perspective, Cullis brings these familiar locations to life, offering a visual narrative of the town’s enduring charm.
The exhibition’s opening reception, sponsored by Chateau des Charmes, will be held on November 3rd from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, featuring nibbles and refreshments. Guess will also have the chance to hear directly from the artist, as Rick Cullis will be giving remarks at 2:30pm.
