Paper Hearts at Boston Pizza
The Paper Hearts campaign initiative started 30 years ago after Boston Pizza franchisees David and Lisa MacPherson welcomed their son Kyle who was born with a life-threatening heart condition called hyperplastic right heart syndrome. The store staff decided they wanted to help by cutting red paper hearts and selling them for $1 each. The fundraising was so successful that the next year, Boston Pizza decided to sell Paper Hearts in all stores across the country.
