Penny’s love of movement began at a young age when she was training and studying dance. During her time studying dance, anatomy, music and pedagogy at Ryerson Theatre School, she discovered Pilates.
As an avid learner and now lover of Pilates, Penny’s passion inspired her to obtain her certifications in Pilates 4 Youth, Pilates for MS & Neurological Conditions, and Progressive Ballet Technique.

To celebrate #PilatesDay, we asked Penny –
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲?
I honestly don’t have a favourite pilates exercise. I love moving on the Reformer, as it gives me support where I need it. On the Cadillac/Tower and ladder barrel, I can work on specific areas I feel I need to explore. And when I get off the chair, I feel strong and empowered.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀?
I fell in love with how Pilates made my body feel. When I transitioned into teaching Pilates, I had already been teaching dance for almost 20 years and I wanted to share what pilates had given me.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵?
I don’t have just one type of favourite client. I enjoy discovering why a client has decided to share their time with me. Whether they are at the studio because the doctor/physio has told them to see us, preparing their body for an event or just wanting to make an overall lifestyle change. I mostly enjoy it when I can share the passion I have and the client “gets it” – maybe not in execution, but in thought.
