After being closed for almost three months, the third Niagara Habitat for Humanity ReStore will reopen on Tuesday, June 30th.
“We are excited to welcome shoppers and donors back to our store,” said Jodi Krah, ReStore manager. “Every donation and purchase helps us build homes in the community, so we need customers and donors now more than ever. When you donate and shop at the ReStore, your contribution stays right here in our community.”
Habitat ReStores are home improvement stores which sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, kitchens, appliances, building materials, and much more for a fraction of the retail price, plus you’ll never pay the HST.
The Niagara ReStores are owned by Habitat for Humanity Niagara and play an integral role in helping to fund Habitat’s mission to transform lives of families through affordable homeownership. This year, Habitat Niagara had planned to build four homes however due to the pandemic and state of emergency has had to scale down to building three homes.
“We are working with our partners at the Niagara Peninsula Aboriginal Area Management Board to restart its Building Futures program to complete the house that we began constructing in Port Colborne earlier this year,” said Mark Carl, Habitat Niagara CEO. “The closing of our operations and the current economic climate has put us behind in our build program, however, we are working hard to get back on track with our mission to serve the families who have qualified for our homeownership program.”
Habitat Niagara’s other two ReStores in Grimsby and St. Catharines opened earlier this month in a phased approach as they recalled staff and implemented health and safety procedures to keep its team and the public safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The stores are operating on reduced hours and limited resources and are currently working to re-engage certain existing volunteers for specific tasks to keep up with the demand.
ReStore shopping hours are from Tuesday to Saturday 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, and donations can be dropped off Tuesday to Saturday 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
