Spring has officially arrived, and with it comes the reopening of one of Welland’s premier outdoor recreation spaces—Empire Sportsplex! Whether you’re a seasoned pickleball player, a casual basketball shooter, or just looking for a great way to stay active outdoors, this is the place to be.

Pre-Season Hours Begin Monday, April 14th

Get a head start on your spring fitness goals. Empire Sportsplex will be open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. during the pre-season, running from April 14 to May 16.

Note: Pre-season hours are unstaffed, so bring your own equipment and be prepared to enjoy the fresh air on your own terms. No building access or equipment rentals will be available during this time.

Why Empire Sportsplex?

Opened in July 2022, Empire Sportsplex has quickly become a crown jewel in Welland’s recreation scene—and it’s getting noticed. The facility is the proud recipient of the Parks and Recreation Ontario Park or Facility Design Award, a recognition of its innovative, state-of-the-art design and its positive impact on both the Welland community and the broader Niagara Region.

Regular Season Hours (May 17 – October 13):

• Open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
• Open Access times: 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.*

Post-Season Hours (October 14 – Mid-November):

• Hours to be determined.
• Like the pre-season, this period will be unstaffed and without equipment rentals.
