Thursday, November 25 is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
Please join us to observe the lighting of Bridge 13 in Welland in orange at 5pm. on Thursday, Nov 25 to mark this day and the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism.
Members of CFUW will also be hanging RED DRESSES in Chippawa Park and at the MCC in Fonthill to acknowledge Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) and the fact that Indigenous women and girls face higher rates of violence than other groups of women in Canada and little has been done to support these women and girls.
Indigenous women constitute 4% of Canada’s female population and 16% of all women murdered in Canada between 1980 and 2012 were Indigenous.
On Tuesday, Dec 7 at 7pm via Zoom, Kayla Mayer, anti-Trafficking Team Lead at the YWCA in St Catharines will present updates on the topic of trafficking which is a serious widespread problem throughout the Niagara Region.
