Saturday can’t come fast enough for Federico Turriziani.
The head coach of the St. Catharines Club Roma Wolves is early anticipating the team’s season opener versus the The Borough in a League1 Cup match. Game time at Kiwanis Field is 6:15 p.m.
It will be St Catharines’ first game since defeating Guelph United to earn promotion to the Men’s Premier League last fall.
“The main thing is the game, it’s the most important part of my job,” Turriziani said. “The players, everybody is excited because practice is fun, it’s good, but games, it’s everything. So that’s why I can’t wait to start and get back on the pitch, even if it’s a Cup game and even if we don’t have all the roster available yet.
“It’s an official game and we have to be ready. I’m very excited for this season that will be different, maybe difficult, but for sure will have a lot of opportunity for us to prove who we are.”
Turriziani said the team has been working out indoors at the Wolf Den before recently moving outdoors, weather permitting.
“Unfortunately, there are players that are hurt and we have players that are at university, like every season. They will be back in the beginning of mid-May. But we have a good roster with the League 2 players that I think is also another good roster, so maybe those guys can help the Premier League team in the next three, four, five games. But the core is here and now we already start to work.”
