Wellspring Niagara is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Niagara Health that will enhance the cancer support services available to patients throughout our region. This collaboration—known as The Niagara Health—Wellspring Niagara Partnership in Cancer Care—aims to significantly improve the quality of life for individuals and families on their cancer journeys.
At Wellspring Niagara, we are dedicated to providing supportive care programs in a friendly and welcoming environment. We recognize that cancer impacts not only physical health but also the emotional and psychological well-being of patients and their families. Our services are available at no cost and without a referral and encompass essential social, emotional, psychological, and rehabilitative support, all delivered by qualified professionals and trained volunteers.
As part of this partnership, trained volunteers from Wellspring will be present in the waiting areas and chemotherapy suites of the Walker Family Cancer Centre at Niagara Health in St. Catharines. They will offer information and resources that complement medical treatment and provide continuous support throughout the cancer journey.
Dr. Deanna White, Wellspring Niagara Program Manager, emphasizes the significance of this collaboration: “Our goal is to ensure that patients and their families are aware of the vital support available to them. We want to shift the narrative from ‘I wish I would have known about you sooner’ to ‘I do know about you, and I’m ready to reach out when I need help.'”
Dr. Levesque, Chief of Oncology at Niagara Health, shares this vision, adding, “This collaboration is a natural fit for our community. By connecting our healthcare services with Wellspring’s supportive programs, we are cultivating a holistic approach to cancer care that addresses the emotional and practical needs of our patients.”
As a community-funded non-profit organization, Wellspring Niagara has long recognized the gaps in supportive care and fostered strong relationships with local health services to tackle these challenges. The Niagara Health – Wellspring Niagara Partnership in Cancer Care significantly enhances the overall experience and outcomes for individuals navigating cancer treatment in our region.
Together, we are committed to ensuring that no one faces cancer alone.
Ann Mantini-Celima, Executive Director, Wellspring Niagara, beautifully articulates our vision: “Our vision is simply this: No one faces cancer alone. This partnership places patients at the heart of our efforts, dismantling barriers in both medical and supportive care. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this vision a reality. We see this as the beginning of a long and impactful partnership. Cancer changes everything. But with this partnership, no one faces those changes alone. Today isn’t just about starting a new partnership—it’s about redefining cancer care in Niagara.”
